Shuttle Driver Environment Description

As a Shuttle Driver in our outdoor adventure transportation service, your work environment is primarily based within a 15-passenger van, but there will also be occasional outdoor tasks or special assignments. Here’s an overview of the physical and operational aspects of your environment:

Primary Work Setting: 15-Passenger Van

  • Vehicle Interior: You will drive a 15-passenger van equipped with comfortable seating for guests, air conditioning or heating for climate control, and necessary safety features such as seat belts and a first aid kit. The interior should be kept clean, welcoming, and organized to ensure a pleasant ride for all passengers.
  • Passenger Capacity: With up to 15 passengers per trip, the van offers ample space, but you may need to manage different group sizes or accommodate larger outdoor equipment (such as bikes, hiking gear, or luggage). Comfort, safety, and a friendly demeanor are key to providing a positive passenger experience.
  • Driving Conditions: The van will be used for various trips, including short drives to nearby adventure locations or longer, scenic journeys. You should be comfortable driving through both urban and rural areas, with varying road conditions. Be prepared for occasional bumpy or narrow roads, especially if traveling to remote or off-the-beaten-path outdoor destinations.

Occasional Outdoor Tasks

While the majority of your work is based inside the shuttle van, there may be occasions where outdoor tasks are required, such as:

  • Loading and Unloading Gear: Depending on the specific adventure or guest needs, you may be asked to assist passengers in loading or unloading outdoor gear like bikes or large backpacks. These tasks will be brief but require you to be physically able and willing to assist guests with their equipment.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Basic vehicle upkeep and cleaning may occasionally require you to step outside. You might need to perform routine checks, such as tire inspections, refueling, or ensuring the vehicle remains in optimal condition for the next trip.
  • Guest Assistance: At destinations or when picking up passengers, you might help guests get in and out of the vehicle, assist with stowing their personal items, or provide directions to specific spots.

Special Tasks or Duties

  • Special Events or Services: On occasion, you may be called upon to assist with specific tours, special events, or one-time activities that require additional coordination. This could involve:
    • Setting up equipment or supplies for an outdoor event.
    • Providing special assistance to guests (e.g., helping with mobility issues or accommodating a larger group).
  • Custom Routes or Unique Requests: Depending on guest interests or special requests, you may instructed upon pre-approval from the office to occasionally adjust your route to include unique local sites or scenic spots, providing an added layer of adventure to the journey.

Physical Demands and Considerations

  • Extended Time in Van: Most of your work will be driving the 15-passenger van, sometimes for extended periods. You must be prepared for long hours on the road, with breaks as needed. Maintaining focus and being able to handle different driving conditions (like winding mountain roads or heavy traffic) is crucial.
  • Occasional Physical Activity: While the job is predominantly vehicle-based, you will need to assist with outdoor tasks like lifting gear, ensuring a safe and smooth ride, and helping passengers with boarding and deboarding the van. This requires a moderate level of physical stamina.

Weather and Environmental Factors

  • Weather Conditions: The environment can vary from sunny days to rain or snow, depending on the season and region. When performing outdoor tasks, you’ll need to be prepared for changes in weather and dress accordingly.
  • Scenic Routes and Outdoor Locations: Your driving routes may take you to some of the region’s most scenic outdoor locations, where the landscape and weather may dramatically change from one adventure site to another.

In summary, while the core of the job takes place in a comfortable and well-equipped 15-passenger van, you must be ready for occasional outdoor responsibilities and special tasks. The environment provides a mix of driving, customer service, and light outdoor work, with an ever-changing backdrop of outdoor adventure destinations.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary for the Denver Adventures Shuttle Driver position is $15/hr but ranges based on tour(s) guided.  Benefits include optional health insurance after 60 days of employment, six friends and family zipline passes to use through out the year(restrictions apply), 1/2 off merchandise, and the chance to work in beautiful natural environments.
